Last couple years proved to be great for Marathi Movies and 2016 started on a lot promising note with the silver screen adoption of the hugely popular play 'Natsamrat'. Looks like record number of Marathi movies are releasing in Q1 16. Interestingly those have exciting genre as Suspense thrillers, Action Comedy, and also the first Sci-Fi in Marathi. This is my pick of the interesting and most likely would be commercially successful movies during Q1.
15 January
· 'Friends' First and foremost is Friends released today (yet to know the reviews) but I've been tracking this from the announcement, as this is directed by R. Madhesh who was the creative director for Rajanikanth's 'Kochadaiiyaan'. And I have been very much excited about the cross pollination of 'content and crew' within the regional movies and more than that internationally. R. Madhesh possibly will start that between Marathi and movies in the Southern region. It will be a pleasure to watch this movie for the finesse which is expected to be at par with Bollywood. Must watch song is 'Dil Dosti Yaari-Waari'. A fast youthful number and will fetch a lot of youngsters to the cinema hall.

While watching this song Sachit Patel resembles a lot of Ranveer Singh - At lease the energy exuberated by Sachit is somewhat simialr to Ranveer (well actually no one can beat him)!
My take is commercially 'Friends' could be hugely successful, but it may not be as at least 5 other Mararhi movies got released today, and couple worth mentioning are:
· 'Shasan' - by Gajendra Ahire and definitely be a notable film, with a whole enchilada of star cast.
· '702 Dixits' - Interestinglt titled movie - a suspense thriller and remarkable to note that produced by a couple we know since many years and who are not related to movies.
22 January
· Guru: Sanjay Jadhav, and Ankush Choudhary collaborate to deliver this action drama. I am banking on this commercially as well, as the last time when both of them came together they created history through 'Duniyadari'. Again the title song is very catchy

5 February:
· 3 movies with the action, comedy genre.
12 February:
· 'Funtroo': Sujay Dahakes ('Shala', 'Ajoba') much awaited first Marathi Sci-Fi. Half the movie is shot in VFX!! He is very young and equally passionate and experimental director. I'll be putting my money on this and the other release on this day. Could be a crowd puller if the VFX are upto mark.

· 'Poshter Girl': From the director (Sameer Patil) of Poshter Boyz - a very successful movie of 2014. And with an awesome tag line - (Sampoorna gavasathi yekach bas!). To make it a commercial success, my only take is it should be distributed by a big studio/distributor like Zee as Funtroo is backed by Eros. But the most important package of this year's marathi movies is bagged in this movie. It's an awesome number (with just one abuse, dual meaning word and has to be ignored) - 'Awaj wadhav DJ'.
· Amazing lyrics, voice, music (Sound of Tasha appears to be a bit digital though) and a different take on Magalshtaka in the last stanza is the epitome of this song !!
· Will top this year's Marathi song countdown
· Number 1 played song in Ganapati and Pubs and Discs this year
· Anand Shinde's big breakthrough after 30+ years of singing career. Will open doors in Bollywood / Tollywood
· Will give run for a money to 'DJ wale Babu, mera gana bajao' - Badshah sounds way too monotonous.
· In fact will go on to create a record of a song / music composition which is reused / remixed in maximum Indian regional movies.

25 March
· 'Sairat': Nagraj Manjule (Fandry - 2013 Best film in at least 12-15 international festivals including BFI London!!) one of the new age most sensitive directors in Marathi. The teaser itself is very amazing and some of the super slow-mo sequences, top angles and the visuals are breath taking . The music (Ajay-Atul) used in the teaser is a fusion of Beethoven / Mozart and Indian classical flute. Awesome!! And coincidentally the bird murmuration which I witnessed at Paithan during end of December and I got a glimpse of this teaser in the 1st week of January, probably after 3 days of witnessing it first time, saw it first time captured in the movie.
· Should fetch huge number of awards, awards even in the international arena
· This time will also be commercially successful

Well today's was much of a forward looking view of the Marathi Movie industry, but the intent is all of us should be excited enough to watch it in theater in the first weekend. Please don’t hesitate to watch both Shasan and Friends and 702 -Dixits at a nearby movie hall this weekend. Happy watching!!
